I’m in a Book!

Greetings Readers!

I hope you are all well and prospering?

Today I wanted to share a really exciting piece of news, well two in fact. The first is that last week I found out that I had received a distinction in my Dissertation meaning that I have passed my masters degree and will be graduating!

However, the second exciting piece of news and the reason I am writing this brief blog post is to tell you that I am in a book! I know! Its utterly crazy and so unbelievable. But, yes I am in a book that you can actually buy on the shelves of Waterstones.

I’m featured on page 271 in the book The Atlas of Beauty by Mihaela Noroc. The book is out to buy now on Amazon, W H Smiths and Waterstones.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself, let me explain why I’m in a book. I did speak about this on my blog in the past and have also spoken about it on my Facebook page.

I have been a fan of the photographer Mihaela Noroc for a while. For those of you who don’t know the story of this incredible visionary. Mihaela is a photographer originally from Romania. One day she decided to give up her job and travel around the world with her camera taking pictures of women from all different cultures, ethnicities and walks of life to showcase the diversity of women and their beauty from all over the world. She posts pictures of the people she finds on her Facebook Page, Twitter and Instagram under the name The Atlas of Beauty.

One day my mother contacted her to say how much we loved her work and to share my story as someone who has lived with a disability and strives to promote equality and positivity in society towards disability. Mihaela contacted my mother and asked if she could interview and photograph me. So, in October last year she came to our home and took a series of images of me alone and me and my mother after hearing my story and how my mother helped me to become the person I am.

We were featured on her Facebook page, an image of me and my mother along with a story about how I overcame Anorexia and accepted my disability and moved on to study for a Degree and a Masters Degree. The piece received a very warm and incredible response from so many people. But then we also discovered that our story was going to be included in a book that she was working on. Mihaela recently finished her book The Atlas of Beauty which has hundreds of stories of the people she’s met and photographed and I’m in it!

If you flick to page 271 there you will find myself and my mother, along with my story. But of course after reading the book I am inspired and awed by the stories I’ve read of women from all over the world.

Mihaela is an inspiring individual and a true talent and she is testimony to why we should always follow our dreams in life and pursue what we love. The Atlas of Beauty is a bestseller and her work is loved and admired by thousands of people around the worlds. I am attending her book signing later this month and it will be incredible to meet her again and to once again congratulate her on producing an incredible book.

For me it is truly an honour to be featured alongside so many incredible women from all across the globe. Their stories are truly inspiring as is the story of the visionary individual who created it.

  1. Very well deserved Emily! You’re a big inspiration to me and a great many others, so it’s fantastic to see you being recognised in this way. Congratulations on the book and the dissertation! 🙂

  2. Well done Emily! I’m sure that before too long you’ll have your own book. And fabulous news about the distinction in your dissertation and completing your masters. We are waiting with great interest to see what you do with the extra time that you will now have! Best wishes.
