The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask: Review

Greetings Readers!

Welcome back to yet another blog post from yours truly. I

I’m sure it comes as no surprise when I say that I love skincare. I think out of every beauty product skincare is my favourite thing to talk about on my blog. Skincare is incredibly fascinating and its also something that, I believe, we should all adopt into our routine. So I love to discover new products and try them out for my blog. One of my favourite products in skincare to test is face masks! You could definitely go as far to dub me a face mask hoarder, I have a whole drawer full of them. Sheet masks, clay masks, exfoliating masks, hydrating masks, gel masks, you name it I have it.

My mum very kindly bought me the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Mask for Christmas, I had said about how much I liked it after having a few sachet samples to try. So, today I wanted to give you some of my thoughts on this mask, a little review if you will.

This face mask is made without Parabens, Paraffin, Mineral Oil or Silicone. It’s also Vegan friendly to and The Body Shop is a cruelty free brand.

This face mask is made with purifying Bamboo Charcoal sourced from the Himalayans, Anti-Bacterial Tea Tree and Japanese Green Tea leaves which give the mask its exfoliating texture.

When you first open this mask you will notice the scent, it has a very fresh and clean scent notably from the Green Tea leaves and Tea Tree. The pot itself is also a very generous size for the price you pay too and hey I’m all for value for money.

The mask is a purifying mask, Charcoal is a natural detoxifier for the skin as it acts as a magnet to draw out and absorb any excess oil, filaments or toxins for the skin. It is amazing if you have blocked pores or blackheads as this mask will really work to rid your pores of any cloggers which can cause something called open pores over time. What I love about this mask is that although it has the purifying element of the Charcoal it also has a exfoliating element to it. Many other Charcoal masks that I have used are very heavily mud based and sometimes I like to use a mask with more of a scrub like texture. This way I don’t have to choose between either, it incorporates both elements into one mask. The texture very much reminds me of the original Glam Glow Mud Mask which I have used before, but this version is a lot more affordable and in my opinion it devlivers very similar results.

The addition of Green Tea also makes this mask very anti-oxidising, Green Tea helps with the skin by protecting your skin against pollutants and improving the skins appearance in general.

Tea Tree gives the mask its detoxifying effect, Tea Tree is a wonderful ingredient for oily skin and blemish prone skin. Although the tea tree scent is not overpowering as you may think in this mask.

I have used this mask a number of times now and every time I have been so impressed with how smooth and clean if makes my skin feel. Because of its exfoliating ingredients it really polishes and smooths over my skin, especially if I have any dead skin or dry skin. The mask is incredibly clarifying and really works to remove any excess oils or sebum. Now, I don’t tend to get a lot of oiliness or blemish prone skin all the time. But I do have combination skin which means around the time of the month I get a very oily t-zone and hormonal breakouts. This mask really comes in handy for that, but it also works very well if I’ve had a lot of makeup on all day and I just want something to really deeply cleanse my skin.

I defy anyone to try this mask and not have the urge to feel how smooth their face is constantly. But, be sure you don’t do this too much as you might transfer bacteria to your skin if you are running your hands over your face! Resist the urge!

I also noticed that after I used this mask it didn’t leave my skin feeling really dry or tight. Of course I did need to moisturise my skin afterwards, but then I do that anyway. It really leaves my skin feeling clearer and it looks noticeably more even. I love using this once a week, usually on a Sunday, as a detox to get my skin ready for the week ahead.

All in all I am so impressed with this face mask, it makes my skin feel incredible after using it. It’s exfoliating texture, combined with the purifying powers of Charcoal work to make my skin feel as if its been given a new lease of life!
