As some of you may know I have a plethora of issues with my skin. Sometimes it can be prone to the odd hormonal pimple, sometimes it gets dry and sometimes it gets red and irritated. Being on lifetime hormone replacement therapy for my endocrine illness (Septo Optic Dysplasia) that means my skin can be very temperamental at times.
At the moment with it being hayfever season and the weather becoming more hot I’ve noticed my skin is getting prone to redness and inflammation. I’ve recently been trying out some products from the REN Evercalm Range which I was sent and I have to say I’m impressed.
REN is a Swedish skincare brand, their key ethos being clean skincare. In fact, REN translated into Swedish means clean. They are also cruelty free, they do not use any animal derived ingredients in their products and their packaging is 100% recyclable.
So in terms of ethics they are a very wholesome brand. I’ve really become massively into REN as of late, I very recently made a “One Brand Facial” video over on my YouTube channel using a variety of REN products. Which you can view below.
Their Evercalm Range is geared towards those with sensitive skin. It’s made with soothing ingredients to calm the skin and reduce irritation. I’ve been using some of the products from this range for the past couple of weeks and I’ve really found some gems that I think are perfect for anyone with sensitivity or those who are prone to redness.
So, let’s delve into the products!
Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Gel
- Beta-Glucan (from Yeast)
- Chamomile Flower Water
The Evercalm Gentle Cleansing Gel is a really feeling, mild cleanser. It works great to cleanse your skin in the morning and a great fit for anyone who experiences irritation and wants a very subtle cleanser. This cleanser has a gorgeous spa like scent, you can definitely smell the Neroli. It foams up into a light lather for your skin. The lather isn’t as much as other clearers I’ve used, so you do have to get it going. But, I really like this cleanser for when my skin feels sensitive and I just want something ultra gentle to cleanse the skin. But, I’d say for this time of the year when my skin can be prone to irritation from hayfever and UV damage, it’s one I’ll be sticking to for the Summer months.
Evercalm Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask
- White Mushroom Extract
- Arnica Extract
Out of all the products I tried from the Evercalm Range, the Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask has to be my favourite. This mask is a beautiful cooling cream mask for your skin when it’s feeling overly sensitive or irritated. It works great as an evening mask to put on just before you go to bed. When I put it on for the first time it felt as if it was enveloping my skin in a soothing embrace. It’s a lovely rich texture which absorbs into the skin slowly without feeling tacky or oily. It’s made with White Mushroom Extract which counteracts discomfort and helps to regenerate the skin. It also contains Arnica which reduces irritation, inflammation and redness. As well as Beta Glucan which helps to reduce sensitivity and hydrates the skin. I’ve used this quite a few times already and its such a relief to put this on after a long day when my skin feels tight or irritated. I haven’t had a case of sunburn just yet luckily, I actually use the REN Clean Screen Sunscreen. But, if I do get sunburn this Summer you can count on this being used straight after.
This product has been such a game changer for me, I haven’t ever tried any leave on masks of this calibre before. It’s such a wonderful product for my skin and it’s one I’d highly recommend you try out.
Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream
- Blackcurrant Seed Oil
- Seabuckthorn Oil
- Calendula Oil
The Evercalm Global Protection Day cream is an everyday hydrating moisturiser for those who suffer from sensitivity. My mum actually uses this herself already and she loves it. It’s a lightweight moisturiser that absorbs into the and helps to soothe irritation and redness. It’s made with Chamomile to soothe the skin and Calendula Oil to heal the skin. It also contains Blackcurrant Seed Oil which is high in Omega 3 and Seabuckthorn Oil which is high in Omega 7. I really like this as a soothing everyday moisturiser for its lightweight texture and soothing feeling on the skin. I’ve used it this week as I’ve had a few hormonal breakouts and its great as a moisturiser to soothe those areas where I get redness and inflammation.
Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm
- Almond Oil
- Jojoba Oil
- Olive Oil
- Lineseed Oil
- Sunflower Oil
The final product is the Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm, its rich in oils and is designed to be used in place of a moisturiser at night before bed. You take a small amount on your fingers warm it up into a serum and then apply it to cleansed skin. It absorbs into your skin as you sleep and the ingredients are rich in nutrients and are designed to regenerate the skin as you sleep. It’s rich in oils and Beeswax which act to lock in moisture and deeply condition the skin. The first time I used it I applied it over the top of a moisturiser and I found that because of this it didn’t really absorb into the skin as well.
The second time I used it I used it with only an essence underneath. This time I found that it absorbed into my skin overnight and my skin felt really smooth and hydrated the morning after. I also noticed that any redness from pimples or healing pimples was reduced. This has more of an oil based texture to it, a little more denser than I’m used to. So a little definitely goes a long way. It has a really lovely texture to it and works really well if you want a more to give your skin more of a treatment before bed. It’s rich oil based texture also works really well if you want to incorporate it into a facial massage routine.
All in all, I think this is a range that has some lovely natural ingredients that are well suited to sensitive skin that really do work and make a difference. The scent is gorgeous and I really hope they expand and add more to this range in the future. Maybe an Evercalm body cream?
