Changing Perceptions on Sight Loss in Style
Now everyone knows that hats have been a statement within the history of fashion. During the Victorian Era hats were a symbol of status, the more richer you were the most extravagant and large your hat became.
In this blog today, I will give you a guide to five key hat looks and how best to wear them whatever your age and style. I guarantee that in this blog you will find a hat that works for you and your own individual style.
Red Bowler Hat
So One of my first hat looks pays a salute to the more dapper look. This pillar box red bowler hat bought from Christie’s London looks splendid to show a unique twist to an outfit. it is also available in cream if you want to go for a more mutual tone to your collection. The bowler hat looks fantastic with a blazer, teamed with the gimmicky jewellery inspired by Tatty Devine jewellery including a moustache shaped earrings or ring and even a bow tie necklace.

Vying for Vintage
Another two key looks in my hat look book are these lovely vintage hat looks, both replicas of vintage eras. But looking as equally great as they would have done back in the day. So vintage style hats can both be bought as actual vintage hats and as reproduction. They are agreat way of adding something special to an outfit. They are more accessible and easy to wear as everyone loves a little vintage and they be used to both dress up an outfit or to add something extra to a more causal everyday look.
The first had is a light pink 1940s style hat from 360 degrees vintage in Greenwich Market with a flower detailing to the back. The other was a 1930s style red hat with a felt flower added to the front bought from a Spitelfields Market London.

Totally Trilby
Now let’s cue the swanky jazz music and light a cigarette it’s now time for the detective look. So sexy and alluring it is and it’s all signified by the trilby. Add a touch of class to an outfit with this black felt tribally hat like mine.
This hat is great for any occasion, but it does take spunk to wear it doll face!
Baker Boy Cap
You’ve got to pick a pocket or two boy!…No you don’t, now I think this look is very nostalgic and can add that twist of mischievousness and youth to a look. The baker boy hat is available in many styles and as it is a look that relates to the “heritage look” which is a recurring trend. It simply will not go out of fashion.
My own was bought from H&M, baker boy hat’s have a very distinct shape so when selecting one in a shop the shape can be very easily
Paired with a denim or brown coloured waistcoat, tweed jacket, field coat or casual jacket the baker boy hat is very causal. The brimm of the cap is also good for VIs as it shades the run from ones eyes.

Floppy Hat
And so we draw onto a more 70s look in which floppy hats, big earrings and escalating high heels were in fashion. The floppy hats are great for all year round.
This stunning hat from French Connection in a berry colour is great for the Winter months, but it also would tie in nicely alongside the upcoming tapestry trends. Provided that the pigments were in darker shades. Thing thing that I love about hats is that they all have a very distinct shape in which makes it easier for VIs to determine which hat it is without the need for assistance.

Straw Boater
The final look that moves on more towards the upcoming Spring Months that dismally seem so far off right now. This hat was a complete bargain bought for 50 pence at a Summer Fate in Devon, I have always wanted one as they are great to pair with denim jeans and a colourful blouse to add a little vintage style to a more festival look or even to wear with a blazer for that “punting” image.
You could even chose to add different coloured ribbon around the base of the hat in order to change the look depending on what colour your wearing. Straw boaters in my opinion are a key piece to have for your Spring/ Summer wardrobe.
