Welcome back to you all and since I haven’t posted since December…a very belated happy new year is in order. I hadn’t anticipated being absent for so long, but a lot has happened since I last spoke to you. So as a result of that I had to take some time away from blogging. But I’ve returned and with some exciting changes. You may notice my website looks a little different, well thats because I recently went self-hosted. Something I plan to cover in a later blog post, but today I want to talk about a skincare brand I very recently discovered: Good Molecules.
Disclaimer…
Good Molecules recently got in touch with me and asked if they could send me a selection of products to try. I’ve been testing them out for the past few weeks and today I wanted to give you my thoughts.
Who Are Good Molecules?
Those of you from the US may already be familiar with this brand, but for my UK followers it may not be a name that you’re familiar with. Good Molecules is the in house skincare brand of Beautylish (an online beauty retailer). Good Molecules offers affordable skincare products with key ingredients that target specific skincare concerns like acne and hyperpigmentation. Their products start from as little as $6 (around £4.50 in British currency) and they title their products to clearly state the ingredient. They are also cruelty free and Vegan friendly.
The brand reminds me of brands like The Ordinary and Inkylist in that the products all clearly state the key ingredients and purposes, making it easier to pick out products suitable for your routine.
This is a concept that I love about skincare as so often we are told to use ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides and vitamin c. But, it can be very monotonous reading it ingredient list to find out what ingredients a product contains. This is a great way of making skincare more accessible to everyone and making it easier to establish a skincare routine that is right for you.
What I Tried

I tried 5 different products that I was sent based on my skin type. I have sensitive skin and Good Molecules sent me some products that are most suited for my skin. There were 2 serums, 2 oils and a moisturiser and I tried them all at alternative times of the day.

First I tried the Hyaluronic Acid Serum, a 30ml bottle retails for $6 (around £4.60) which is very good value for money. Hyaluronic Acid is an essential ingredient for all skin types, whether you are dry, sensitive, oily or combination. It should be an essential element to you skincare routine, used both morning and night. It aids the skin by deeply drawing moisture into the skin and hydrating it without making it oily or congested.
With this serum I noticed that you really don’t need to use a lot, one of two drops is usually enough. I apply it onto cleansed and toned skin before using a moisturiser. It does leave your skin feeling a little bit tacky, but most Hyaluronic Acid serums tend to do the same thing. I then apply my moisturiser which always really adheres to the serum and gives my skin extra hydration. What I liked about the serum is that it feels a bit more richer than some other ones I’ve used in the past. My skin definitely feels more hydrated over a longer period of time.

The other serum I tried was their Super Peptide Serum, a 30ml bottle retails for $12 (around £9.30). Peptides are geared towards tackling fine lines and wrinkles by helping the production of collagen and elastin. I found this serum to be a little lighter in texture, less sticky and more absorbent. It works really well with my gel creams and treatments I usually use at night.

Silicone-Free Priming Moisturiser
This was my favourite product out of everything that I tried. A 50ml bottle retails for $14 (around £10.80) and it honestly stands up against some of my more expensive moisturisers that I use. Its made with hydrating ingredients like Shea Butter, Macadamia Oil and Olive Oil and a plant-based silicone alternative. This has a gorgeous smoothing, moisturising texture that gives a similar feel to a silicone based primer. However, it doesn’t make my skin feel as flat or matte as silicone based products tend to do. Makeup sits really well on top of it and I find that my makeup actually wears better and for longer when I use it. If you have oily skin or you want a moisturiser that works well with makeup I would highly recommend this product. Its an absolute steal!

Next I tried their Squalane Oil, a 13ml bottle retails for $8 (around £6.20) and because its an oil its very concentrated so you only need to use a few drops. Squalane comes highly recommended as a skincare ingredient. I recently wrote an article for Cosmopolitan UK on skincare where I interviewed a dermatologist who talked about squalene oil and how it works well for many skin types. Good Molecules have formulated a plant derived squalene oil. Squalane is a non-comedogenic (non-clogging) emollient that locks in moisture. It’s also absorbent so it works well for all skin types. What I liked about this oil is that it didn’t feel to heavy on the skin and I haven’t noticed any blocked pores since I started using it. Now in the past when I’ve used other oils my skin doesn’t always react well to them.
If you have combination skin or you don’t like oils that feel to weighty on the skin this is definitely one to consider trying.

Pure Cold-Pressed Rosehip Seed Oil
Lastly I tried their Rosehip Oil, a 13ml bottle costs $10 (around £7.70). Rosehip Oil works well for helping you to improve the texture of your skin by deeply nourishing it. Its also a good natural source of Vitamin C which is vital in keeping your skin healthy. It also contains Vitamin A which is natural derivative of Retinol which is important to prevent signs of ageing.
I love using this oil at night, it hydrates my skin and delivers a cocktail of skin benefiting ingreidents to it. Retinol is something I’ve heard a lot about, however it can be a minefield and it can also aggravate the skin if not used correctly. This way I’m getting a natural fix of Retinol without having to apply retinol treatments to my skin. The oil is a little more concentrated than the Squalane Oil, so it works well at night to deliver a more concentrated boost of hydrating. The other lovely thing about this product is that Good Molecules source the reship oil sustainably from Chillie.
What About Shipping?
Beautylish offers international shipping and for UK customers shipping is free when you spend $35 (around £27).
In summary
This is a great brand to explore if you want simplistic and affordable skincare products. The packaging is colourful and stylish, the ingredients are good quality and there’s a variety of skincare to suit everybody’s individual needs.
