🎬 The Herefordshire village that became Stratford-upon-Avon for Hamnet

If you love literary escapes, historic villages and filming locations, add Weobley to your UK travel list. 📚✨

This ridiculously pretty Herefordshire village was transformed into Tudor Stratford-upon-Avon for Hamnet, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal. With its crooked black-and-white timber-framed houses, flower-filled streets and centuries of history, you can completely see why it was chosen. 🏡🌸

🎥 Filming locations to spot around Weobley:
• Broad Street
• Bell Square
• Broad Street & Bell Square junction
• Church Road
• St Peter & St Paul’s Church
• The Wobbly Badger

One of my favourite things about visiting was simply wandering around and recognising the streets and buildings used during filming — while also getting to experience the village beyond its Hamnet connection.

🌿 While you’re here, you can also:
☕ Stop for tea in one of the village cafés
👣 Follow the Weobley Heritage Trail
⛪ Explore St Peter & St Paul’s Church
🏰 Discover the remains of Weobley Castle
🌳 Walk through the surrounding Herefordshire countryside
🚗 Continue along the Black & White Villages Trail to places including Pembridge and Eardisland

We stayed at the gorgeous Mellington House B&B, surrounded by cottage-garden flowers and just a short distance from the centre of the village — basically the perfect base for a countryside escape. 🌼

🚂 Getting here from London:
Travel from London Paddington to Hereford by train, then continue to Weobley by local bus or taxi. If you’re exploring more of rural Herefordshire, having a car definitely gives you more freedom to visit the surrounding villages too.

After visiting the real Stratford-upon-Avon just a few days before, getting to see the village that recreated it on screen felt particularly special. 🎭🍃

Nestled in the Herefordshire countryside, the beautiful village of Weobley was one of the key filming locations for Hamnet, starring Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal.

Its historic streets were transformed into Tudor Stratford-upon-Avon for the film, and when you wander around it’s easy to see why. Weobley is filled with beautifully preserved black-and-white timber-framed buildings that make you feel like you’ve stepped back several centuries. 🏡📚

🎬 Hamnet filming locations to look out for:
• Broad Street
• Bell Square
• The Broad Street & Bell Square junction
• Church Road
• St Peter & St Paul’s Church
• The Wobbly Badger on Broad Street – the historic building used as the exterior of Shakespeare’s Stratford home

🌿 Things to do while you’re there:
• Follow the Weobley Heritage Trail and discover the village’s historic buildings
• Visit St Peter & St Paul’s Church, which also appears in Hamnet
• Walk past the remains of Weobley Castle
• Stop for tea or lunch in one of the village cafés ☕️
• Try the gentle 3.3-mile Weobley Trail through the village and surrounding countryside
• Follow the Hamnet-inspired walk from Weobley to Pembridge
• Explore more of Herefordshire’s gorgeous Black & White Villages Trail, including Pembridge, Eardisland and Dilwyn 🌳

🚂 How to get there from London:
You can travel by direct GWR train from London Paddington to Hereford. From Hereford, the 461/462 bus travels out towards Weobley and stops right on Broad Street – perfect for starting your filming-location walk. I’d recommend checking the latest timetable before travelling as rural services can vary.

This was such a lovely place to explore as someone who loves literary travel, filming locations and historic villages – especially after visiting the real Stratford-upon-Avon just a few days earlier. 🌸🎭

🎭 At Shakespeare’s Birthplace, I discovered tactile objects and watched a live performance of Romeo and Juliet.

🌿 I explored the beautiful gardens at Shakespeare’s New Place before stepping back into Tudor life at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage.

⛪ I also visited Holy Trinity Church, where William Shakespeare is buried.

🚤 A cruise along the River Avon offered gorgeous views—and plenty of places nearby to stop for an ice cream! 🍦@avon.boating

🦌 Finally, I explored @nationaltrust @charlecotepark, a historic Tudor house surrounded by 500 acres of deer park.

🚆 Stratford-upon-Avon is accessible by train from London Marylebone, with journeys taking from around two hours and usually requiring one change.

Come with me for a day at Port Lympne Safari Park 🦒🦏🌿

If you’re looking for an unforgettable wildlife day out in Kent, Port Lympne is home to around 80 incredible species from across the globe. During my visit I got to spend time with everything from majestic giraffes to magnificent rhinos!

The highlight of my day had to be the Rhino Safari. This incredible ranger-led experience takes you behind the scenes of the reserve, where you can get much closer to these amazing endangered animals while learning about the vital conservation work taking place. It was genuinely one of the most memorable wildlife experiences I’ve ever had.

ℹ️ What you need to know
📍 Location: Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve, Lympne, near Hythe, Kent
🚆 Nearest station: Westenhanger (around a 10-minute taxi ride)
🎟️ Day tickets: From around £32.73 online for adults when booked in advance (prices vary by season). (Aspinall Foundation)
🦏 Rhino Safari: Available daily (January–October), lasts around 2 hours, costs £65 per person and must be booked separately from park admission.

♿ Accessibility
As someone with a visual impairment, I found the reserve quite challenging in places. It’s built across very hilly terrain with some uneven paths, so it’s worth bearing this in mind if you have mobility or accessibility needs.

That said, the Rhino Safari made my visit so much more accessible. Being driven around the reserve meant I could experience far more of the park without tackling all of the hills, while also getting much closer to the animals than you would on a standard visit. The reserve also offers wheelchair hire, concessionary admission, free entry for one registered carer, accessible safari trucks and selected wheelchair-friendly routes.

I had such a wonderful day and loved seeing these incredible animals while learning more about the conservation work being done to protect them. 🦒❤️
