Roast in Borough Market has launched a brand-new butterfly themed afternoon tea.
If there’s one restaurant in London that always nails it when it comes to dreamy aesthetics for an afternoon tea setting, it’s Roast in Borough Market.
Recently, they launched their brand new afternoon tea called Butterfly in the Meadow, in collaboration with the Champagne brand Veuve Clicquot.

This new afternoon tea is entirely themed around flowers, springtime and butterflies, with a menu of sweet treats and cocktails that takes its aesthetic inspiration from florals.
I was recently invited to try the new afternoon tea along with my mum as a Mother’s Day treat, and I have to say, I think this might be my favourite one that I’ve tried from them yet.
Starting from £59, this afternoon tea is a really nice mix of hot savoury food, sandwiches and sweet treats. I think, for me, what sets Roast apart is that it’s not all your classic finger sandwiches, scones and cakes.
They also include things like a Scotch egg, sausage roll and croquette, which is what I absolutely love about visiting here for afternoon tea.
Another thing that I really love about this setting is the staff. They are always incredibly attentive and, no matter how busy it is, you’re always served very quickly.
We started off with our tea selection. They have a very good range of teas, from green teas to Darjeelings and classic English Breakfast teas, before we moved on to selecting our cocktails.

The Golden Wings, which is a vodka-based cocktail with passion fruit and elderflower liqueur, and Flutter & Flame, a vodka-based drink with lychee liqueur and blood peach purée, were our favourites.
Starting with the savouries and sandwiches, you get a selection of finger sandwiches including pulled pork with apple purée and pea shoot, smoked salmon with cream cheese, lemon and dill, and roast beef with horseradish, mayonnaise and rocket.
Alongside these, there are also warm savoury bites including the Roast signature pork Scotch egg with piccalilli sauce, braised beef croquette with horseradish emulsion and mustard cress, and their signature sausage roll with pork and chorizo.

This is then followed by the sweet treats, which include the Roast Rose Signature, coconut and passion fruit cheesecake, London Honey Délice, and warm scones served with homemade seasonal jam and clotted cream.
I thought this afternoon tea was really well done because it had such a lovely mix of both hot and cold savouries, which made it feel more exciting and filling than a more traditional afternoon tea. It also felt like really good value for money, especially because the portion sizes were generous and you get such a wide variety of food.

My favourite savoury bites were definitely the croquette and the Scotch egg, both of which were packed with flavour, while on the sweet side the Roast Rose Signature was a real standout.
The scones were another highlight too, served hot and fresh out of the oven, which is always a win in my opinion when it comes to afternoon tea.
Prices start from £59, or £69 and up if you want to add extras such as a cocktail or a glass of Champagne, and it can be booked online at Roast.
The menu also lists options at £79 with Veuve Clicquot Rosé and £85 with bottomless prosecco.
