The New Pixi Retinol Jasmine Collection*

3rd June 2020

Greetings Readers!

A flatlay photo of the Pixi Jasmine Retinol collection.

In todays blog post I’m going to be talking about the latest collection of skincare products from Pixi. Pixi recently launched their Jasmine Retinol Collection, this range came as an addition to their Retinol Tonic.

This range contains…

So today I’m going to be giving an overview of what’s new…

What Is Retinol?

Retinol or Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A and they are used to help combat signs of ageing in the skin. Typically pure Retinol treatments need to be used on the skin before bed and you also have to follow a strict SPF regime too as Retinol makes the skin more sensitive to UV rays.

However, this range contains an ingredient called Retinyl Palmitate, this is a Retinoid. This means that you can apply it as and when you want, as opposed to more conventional retinol treatments. Of course, the results are not quite the same as using a Retinol treatment. So don’t go buying this range if you are looking for something that will be as effective as a Retinol treatment, because that is a different kettle of fish. Confusing, right?

If you want to read a more comprehensive blog on this topic from an expert I’d highly recommend this blog by Doctor Anne.

What’s In The Range…

A photo of the Pixi Retinol Cleanser.

Retinol Jasmine Cleanser

This cleanser is very thick and creamy, but also gentle on the skin too. It contains Vitamin A, Ceramide and Jasmine Oil. It has a very pleasant deep floral scent and it has a decent amount of lather to it. It isn’t drying on the skin. My skin feels smooth and clean, yet the cleanser doesn’t strip it or make it feel dry like some do. It makes for a soft, subtle cleanser to use both day and night. Although if you are using it at night you still need to double cleanse if you wear makeup and SPF.

A 135ml tube retails for £18

Retinol Tonic

The Retinol Tonic was the first, original product that Pixi came out with in this line. It contains Vitamin A, Peptides and Jasmine Oil. Again you can definitely smell the floral ingredients in this. It’s quite subtle on the skin and feels soothing on the skin. Although I will be honest, I have always been a Rose Tonic lover myself for my skin type. However, this one is also pretty comparable to the Rose Tonic if you want a tonic that isn’t drying or too harsh.

A 100ml bottle retails for £10.

Jasmine Oil Blend

The Jasmine Oil Blend was, for me, one of the gems of this collection. It had some nice ingredients in this such as Jasmine Flower Extract, Evening Primrose and Grape Seed Oil. It felt very smoothing on the skin and really helped to improve the texture of my skin even after one application. It smooths and soothes the skin, leaving it feeling so soft. However, even though it is an oil, it does absorb well into the skin. You can use it both before and mixed in with your moisturiser. If you like Jasmine scented products, you will love this, because this product has the strongest and most distinctive Jasmine scent out of everything in this range.

A 30ml bottle retails for £26.

Overnight Retinol Oil

Now whilst the Jasmine Oil Blend was a little bit lighter, this Overnight Retinol Oil was more weighty. So you only need to use a very small amount for it to go a long way. It contains a cocktail of anti-aging ingredients including Vitamin A, Peptides and Ceramides. I personally find it very effective for any kind of texture on my skin or inflammation. I always use it if my skin is feeling irritated or looking a little bit red. I use a few drops on my skin before using a moisturiser and I always notice it helps to reduce inflammation to my skin.

A 30ml bottle retails for £26.

Retinol Jasmine Lotion

This lotion has a lightweight formula, which is breathable on the skin and absorbs very quickly. It contains Ceramide, Peptides and Blackberry and again it features a delicate, floral scent. It is very lightweight and as someone who can get dry to combination skin I don’t use it as my everyday moisturiser. But as the weather starts to get more hot I have been gravitating towards it for those hot evenings when I just want a lightweight lotion to apply to my skin.

A 50ml tube retails for £24.

Retinol Eye Cream

The final product in this new collection is an eye cream and I don’t know about you but I’m all about the eye creams! This contains Caffeine and Peptides to give the under eye area a bit of a boost. Especially if you have tired under eyes or puffiness! It’s very lightweight and is applied through a small nozzle. Which is very convenient, because it means you don’t have to continuously dip your fingers into the pot and thus encourage bacteria. It feels very smoothing and is very lightweight, leaving the under eye area feeling hydrated and fresh.

A 25ml tube retails for £22.

Star Rating

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

This range had some lovely products like the Retinol Jasmine Lotion and the Jasmine Oil Blend. The range had a pleasant floral scent and felt soothing on the skin. However, I personally felt that Pixi was a bit confusing in how it chose to market the products as being a “retinol” range.

Having said that, I did enjoy trying this range and do think it would suit people who experience inflammation or textured skin.
