Here are 5 makeup tips you should know about if you are visually impaired, coming from a visually impaired person!
It probably comes as no surprise to most of you, I’m visually impaired.
I’ve lived with very limited eyesight since birth due to a congenital condition and one thing I’ve always loved from an early age is makeup.
But, the road to learning how to do my makeup independently hasn’t been an easy one.
So today I’m going to be sharing my 5 top tips that I think every visually impaired person should know when applying makeup.
One thing I could not be without as a visually impaired makeup lover is my trust beauty blending sponge. These work great for all manner of products like foundation, concealer, cream blushers, liquid highlighters and more.
The reason I love them is because they can be used to apply products or blend them out.
Unlike using brushes, you won’t get brush marks with a sponge and they can make your makeup look so much more airbrushed and natural.
Eyeshadow fallout is the absolute bane of my existence and it’s one of the things that is such an easy mistake to make if you can’t see.
I had many times where my mum would tell me that I’d gotten eyeshadow fallout under my eyes and I’d have to try and remove it without spoiling my makeup.
But one thing I would highly recommend investing in are eyeshadow guards.
You can get them from lots of online retailers and they basically work as a sticker where you can place them under your eye to act as a guard and prevent fallout.
Some, like the Quickie Stickies from Kohl Kreatives are reusable.
Or you can do something similar with a folded piece of tissue held under the eyes if you don’t want to splash the cash.
If you struggle to apply eyeliner if (like me) you are blind in one eye or have no peripheral vision.
Try using your front facing (selfie) camera on your phone to act as a periscope to see your eyelid better when you are applying eyeliner.
I know it sounds weird, but it actually works!

If you struggle to know where the start, end, and arch of your eyebrows are try this trick.
When applying lip products, particularly lipsticks or glosses don’t apply them straight from the product.
Instead take a lip brush and build up the colour on your lips little by little.
Start in the centre and fade it out around the edges. This will help you avoid overlying your lips or making your lip shape appear downturned.
Remember, you can always add more if you need to!
I hope you found these tips helpful, makeup can be difficult if you are doing it without limited sight.
But it’s not impossible, it’s all about practice and having a little patience.
