Changing Perceptions on Sight Loss in Style
I recently stayed at the Vienna Marriott Hotel – here’s my full review.
I recently spent three days in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, and the hotel was what really made the experience that much better.
Vienna has definitely been a bucket list trip for me ever since I was a child and read The Star of Kazan by Eva Ibbotson.
But I do have to say, these days when it comes to travel, I really do think that where you stay can really make or break a trip, especially a city break.
We recently stayed in the Vienna Marriott Hotel, in Vienna’s 1st District, just a few minutes’ walk away from Stadtpark and St Stephen’s Cathedral.
The modern hotel was first built around 40 years ago and spans several floors, with an opulent glass roof, a gift shop, a café, and two cocktail bars, as well as a restaurant and wellness area. But what I really want to champion and highlight is how accessible it was for me as a visually impaired person.
When it comes to getting around, I really do believe that this hotel has a great location, being such a short walk away from Stadtpark, which offers metro access to popular locations like Schönbrunn Palace.
This made getting around really easy, especially with all of its links to the city by public transport, including trams as well.
The hotel is also within 15 minutes of some of the city’s most popular attractions, including the Upper Belvedere, known for its art, the Austrian National Library, and the Hofburg Palace.
The hotel is 15 minutes from Wien Mitte, which is accessible via the CAT train service from Vienna Airport.
We stayed in one of the suites on the second floor, which was honestly one of the best hotel rooms I’ve stayed in, with a separate living area, plenty of hanging space, a seating area, and large windows overlooking the park.
The bedroom was separate, with two smart TVs either side of the partition, as well as a huge bathroom with a walk-in shower and bath, and it was well stocked with L’Occitane products and complimentary robes and slippers.
The bed was also incredibly comfortable and spacious, with multiple charging ports beside the bed, including USB-C and USB.
There was also a minibar and coffee facilities, and on arrival we were greeted with a selection of delicious sweet treats like macaroons, cakes, and chocolate-covered strawberries.
One thing that I really found about the hotel was that it was really accessible, with things like Braille numbers on the doors of each room and a concierge service and desk to book things like trips and excursions around Vienna.
The hotel is also dog-friendly, with a dog-friendly room service menu, making it a great place to visit if you have an assistance dog.
The staff were also very helpful and offered to help me navigate the hotel, finding things like the toilets and my way around the wellness area.
The hotel has a number of food and drink options if you don’t fancy venturing out into the city, including Cascade, Champions Sports Bar & Restaurant, and Garden Café on the ground floor.
The Garden Café is where you’ll find a range of Viennese cakes and sweet treats, including their famous cheesecakes and their Viennese hot chocolate, which you melt in chocolate balls and which is made in-house.
Upstairs on the first floor is where you’ll find the on-site Parkring Restaurant, where breakfast is served, which is a full American-style buffet with everything from pastries and continental options to a full cooked breakfast.
The breakfast here was fantastic, and what I loved is they even served free prosecco at the buffet if you fancied a glass of bubbles with your breakfast.
The hotel also offers a wellness suite on the basement floor with a small heated pool, as well as separate male and female wellness areas featuring a sauna and relaxation room.
What I loved about it was that the pool was virtually to your right as you came out of the lift, without having to negotiate lots of steps and corridors.
I have to say this hotel really ticked all the boxes when it came to service, hospitality, and convenience, and it would be one I’d openly recommend to anyone who told me they were planning a trip to Vienna.
