10 things to get you in the mood for Halloween

8th October 2022

Here are 10 things you can do this October to get you in the mood for Halloween!

Greetings Readers!

Spooky season is upon us and if any of you know me, then you’ll know I’m a huge lover of all things Halloween.

Halloween is one of my favourite times of the year and I love scrolling through Instagram to see what other people are doing, making, buying, wearing and eating to mark the festivities.

Get some Halloween treats and have a scary movie marathon

One of my favourite things to do to mark the season is to visit my local supermarket (especially places like M&S or Aldi) and get some of their Halloween treats.

Make a spread with them and line up your favourite films for a cosy day watching films and enjoying a Halloween feast.

Visit a pumpkin patch

Growing up in the UK, I feel that pumpkin patches weren’t really a thing. Luckily they are now and there are some great ones dotted all over the country.

Nothing says Halloween like bundling up in a cosy knitted jumper and picking your own pumpkin out of a whole field of them.

For me, it really makes the season complete.

Carve a pumpkin whilst you watch Hocus Pocus

This is the perfect way to get ready for the Halloween festivities. Carving pumpkins can be somewhat time consuming, especially if you want to get very creative.

So why not make that your time to watch the obligatory Hocus Pocus whilst you carve your pumpkin into your chosen design.

Make some Halloween treats

Baking is such a happy place for me and it really gets me in the mood for any season.

There’s so many great ideas for treats to make on places like Instagram and Pinterest and some don’t even require baking.

If you have a Halloween party coming up or are planning to invite family over this can be such a nice way to spend some time.

Decorate your home for the season

In my house we love to celebrate Halloween with decorations, autumn garlands, outdoor lights, pumpkin spice candles…you name it.

Who doesn’t love an excuse to visit their local TK Max, Homesense, Home Bargains and B&M to get some seasonal decor.

They have some great decorations for Halloween this year and decorating the house for the season can really change your mood and make the house feel so cosy on those cold autumnal nights.

Have a Halloween photoshoot

Regardless of whether you are an Instagrammer, you should make every season a photo opportunity. If nothing else, they make memories and give you the chance to have some fun.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money. It could be anything from finding an old sheet, getting some props to curate your very own ghost charcuterie. To carving a pumpkin and wearing it to become your very own pumpkin head.

Have your pets involved too, you’d be surprised what costumes and cute Halloween sweaters you can find for dogs and even cats.

As I say, these photos will make wonderful memories and you can print them out and have them as keepsakes for years to come.

Go on a ghost tour

One thing I love doing as the nights draw in and the nights get longer is to book in for a ghost tour. Lot’s of towns, cities and places of interest offer them so it’s worth finding out where in your area offers them.

You get to learn about some interesting history and the stories of alleged hauntings that have been reported in the area.

They make for a great night out…followed by a stop in the local pub that the tour guide will almost assuredly have pointed out to you.

Try out some Halloween crafts

Halloween crafts are such a great way to spend a cold and rainy afternoon indoors. There’s so many great craft ideas online, although be warned that you can easily fall down a rabbit hole spending so much time looking for the perfect one!

I often find I spend more time looking for a craft than actually crafting.

One of my favourite crafts to make is a really fun DIY for floating candles which look amazing suspending from the ceiling.

Get some cute things to wear

One thing I love to do for Halloween, especially with all the day trips I have planned, is to treat myself to some things to wear. I love buying themed sweaters, cute earrings, even new halloween socks and pyjamas.

Lot’s of places like Primark, New Look Boohoo, Sainsbury’s and Asda have some really cute things to wear for all the family, even your pets!

Get some of that pumpkin spice

I don’t think you can say you’ve done spooky season properly unless you’ve gotten your fix of pumpkin spice. For me, I love a slice of pumpkin pie or a delicious pumpkin cupcake. You can get pumpkin puree in supermarkets here in the UK as well as online and there are so many ways to enjoy pumpkin from sweet to savoury.
