If there’s one flower that always brightens my summer calendar, it’s lavender. Used in remedies and perfumes for centuries, lavender is deeply rooted in British history and culture.

While many lavender fields are tucked away in the countryside, one of my personal favourites is just under an hour from London: Mayfield Lavender Farm in Banstead, Surrey. This stunning destination has become one of the UK’s most popular lavender fields, and for good reason.

Brief History of Mayfield Lavender

Mayfield Lavender was founded in 2006 by Brendan Maye, who revived historic Victorian lavender fields in Surrey. His vision was to bring lavender back to the area where it once thrived, and he established the UK’s first organic lavender farm, accredited by the Soil Association.

Now run by Brendan and his wife Lorna Maye, the farm has grown into a 25‑acre haven of purple blooms, rustic benches, and the iconic red telephone box that has become a favourite photo spot. In 2026, Mayfield celebrates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of sustainable, chemical‑free farming and unforgettable summer experiences.
